Facts About Latarjet Surgery The LatarJet operation , also called the LatarJet-Bristol process, is an abdominal surgical technique used to treat recurrent upper chest pain, most often caused by a fracture or bone loss of the glenohumeral ligament. The technique was first described in 1954 by French orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michel Latarjej. Although this technique has been around for decades, only recently has it gained acceptance as a method of pain relief. For patients with persistent abdominal pain caused by glenohumeral instability, the operation involves inserting a flexible rod into a patient's abdominal cavity.
